Wolfgang Van Halen Trolls Eddie Van Halen Imposter on Instagram

Wolfgang Van Halen was understandably upset when he learned an account on Instagram impersonating his father, Eddie Van Halen, had been sending messages to other users.

Wolfie (and presumably other users) reported the account to Instagram—the first step any user would take. But seeing as how this account was impersonating his father, he decided to go a step further.

Wolfie started DMing the imposter account, as if it were his father, striking up a conversation until eventually the imposted asked for $40,000...and provided bank account information.

"Oh hey, Dad. How's it going. It's me, your son," Wolfie wrote in a flurry of initial messages, dripping with sarcasm. "You obviously know that because you're totally my dad."

He quickly turned serious: "Stop messaging people pretending to be someone you're not."

Wolfie posted screenshots to make his followers aware of the imposter. Click through his first post below.

After that, the owner of the account responded, and it started getting very weird.

Finally, the imposter account messaged Wolfie back, "Why are you so stupid."

Delighted to get a response, Wolfie continued peppering the DMs with messages, trying to get more responses. The tone turned when the imposter responded "What help do you need" to one of Wolfie's messages. Then later, "Love you too."

With the ice broken, imposter Eddie asked Wolfie "What are you up to today," then telling him "I need you to get something done for me before coming [over]."

Wolfie declined to help. But the imposter was not discouraged. "Hey son listen to me," it wrote.

"Do you have up to $40,000.00 with you i need you to help me send the money to someone can you do that? [sic]"

Playing along Wolfie said "Oh sure!"

That's when the imposter replied with bank account information, including account and routing numbers!

"Welp. This sure got interesting," Wolfie said.
