Flight Attendant Refused to Accommodate Autistic Man

A system outage at customs resulted in the family rushing to get to their gate to not miss their flight. When they board the Delta flight all family members were separated on the plane. The autistic family member needed to be with his family and even another passenger offered to switched seats to make that happen but the flight attendant got a big attitude about it. The airlines have since delivered an apology and according to the family, have personally apologized to them as well.

Have they done enough? What can be done in the future to prevent this from happening?
